Background: The emergency department is often associated with congestion and high workload. Emergency nurses usually experience situations that lead to moral challenges, and one of its consequences is moral distress, defined as the most important hidden job challenge among emergency nurses. This study was conducted with the aim of determining nurses’ level of moral distress and factors affecting it in the accidents and emergency department.Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 200 nurses working in the emergency department of hospitals in Semnan and Sabzevar, Iran. They were asked to complete the moral distress and demographic questionnaires by self-reporting. The data was analyzed with SPSS 22 using independent t-test and analysis of variance. Results: The mean age of the participants was 32.20 ± 7.2 years. The overall score of moral distress was 54.61 ± 10.1, which shows a low level of moral distress in these public hospitals. The lowest level of moral distress was related to high job satisfaction while the highest score of moral distress was related to unfavorable relationship between nurses and doctors. Conclusion: Considering the negative effects caused by moral distress on the quality of nursing care, it is necessary for managers of organizations to take necessary measures to identify the symptoms of moral distress in nurses and take a positive step towards reducing it by interventions and, as a result, increase the quality of services provided to patients.

Introduction: Coronavirus is an infectious disease that is faced by the large nursing community today, especially nurses working in the intensive care unit. Along with other job stressors in the nursing profession, the nature of this disease has affected the quality of Work Life (QWL) of nurses. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect of Benson relaxation on nurses' QWL in caring for Covid 19 patients.Materials and Methods: This study was a two-group clinical trial. The research units included 62 nurses working in the intensive care units of Vasi Sabzevar Hospital, who were divided into two Benson sedation and control groups by census method and random assignment in 2019. The intervention group performed relaxation exercises twice a week for one month and each time for 20 minutes. Data collection was done through WRQoL-2 quality of work-life questionnaire. The data was analyzed by spss-16 software. Results: The mean score of QWL of all nurses before the intervention in the crisis conditions was 53±4.4 which is at the low quality of life levels. The quality of life of intensive care nurses increased after Benson relaxation compared to the control group (p <0.05).Conclusion: This study showed that Benson relaxation increases the QWL in nurses in the face of Covid-19 patients, so it is suggested that nursing managers while using relaxation techniques, by creating a calm work environment and Low stress conditions provide the active participation of nurses to achieve the goals of the health system.

Introduction: Assertiveness is an essential tool in communication between nurses and other members of the hospital staff as well as patients. According to studies, more assertive nurses have higher self-esteem and if they make a mistake, they have more courage in reporting the error and as a result, take timely action and prevent the repetition of similar mistakes.Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of an assertiveness training program on nurses' assertiveness and self-esteem. Methods: This investigation was an experimental study, conducted on two equal groups with pre-test and post-test design. The study was performed on 70 nurses from different wards of Imam Reza Hospital in Mashhad, Iran. The assertiveness training program in the intervention group consisted of a workshop and a Intragroup session. All subjects in the two groups before, after, completed the Rathus assertiveness scale and Rosenberg self-esteem questionnaires. Data were statistically analyzed. Results: The intervention and control groups were similar in terms of demographic characteristics (p>0.05). Implementation of the assertiveness training program increased the level of assertiveness and self-esteem of nurses in the intervention group in all post-intervention measurements compared to before (p <0.01). However, the increase in assertiveness and self-esteem of nurses in the intervention group was not significant in any of the post-intervention episodes compared to the control group (p> 0.05).Conclusion: Based on our findings, the implementation of an assertiveness training program leads to improving the assertiveness and self-esteem.Keywords: assertiveness, self-concept, nurse, Communicating assertively, self-confidence
