[English]

Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and debilitating disease that significantly affects patients' physical, emotional, and social well-being. This study aimed to examine the impact of group training focused on behavioral activation centered around self-care within a family-based framework for patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
Materials and Methods: This study utilized a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test evaluations. The participants consisted of 40 male and female MS patients aged 20 to 55 from Torbat-e Jam, selected through convenience sampling and randomly assigned to either an experimental or control group. The experimental group underwent eight sessions of family-oriented behavioral activation training, lasting 90 minutes each over two months. The 12-item self-care scale developed by Jarsma was administered before and after the training to assess self-care abilities. Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA).
Results: The findings indicated that family-oriented group behavioral activation training significantly enhanced the self-care practices of individuals diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
Conclusion: This study demonstrates that behavioral activation, as a family-centered intervention, effectively improves self-care capabilities in patients with multiple sclerosis. Healthcare providers should consider incorporating this intervention into the care plans for patients with MS and their families.
