Introduction: Selective muscle strengthening of quadriceps synergistic muscles is important to improve muscle performance specially to prevent Patella- femoral syndrome. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the pattern of the Vastus medialis and Vastus lateralis activity in response to the intensities of super maximal eccentric and submaximal concentric contractions.
Materials and Methods: 12 healthy men students randomly selected (21±2 years, 173±12 cm, and 71±8 kg) from University of Bojnord. Electromyography activity of quadriceps muscles was measured during contraction by using electromyography system. To evaluate the date, the Multivariate variance (MANOVA) and post hoc test (TUCKY) were applied at p˂0.05.
Results: The data analysis was demonstrated the electromyography activity of Vastus medialis and Vastus lateralis were significantly increased with an increased work load during the eccentric contraction rather than concentric contraction which suggests that progressive resistance training using super maximal eccentric contraction is more effective than submaximal concentric contraction to create the neuromuscular adaptations.
Conclusion: Furthermore, it was observed a significant interaction between muscle type and contraction intensity for muscle electromyography activity. Since, during the submaximal contraction, the EMG activity of Vastus medialis was significantly higher than Vastus lateralis, while it was not the case during super maximal contraction, which could indicate the possibility of selective muscle strengthening of Vastus medialis in sub-maximal intensity to prevent patella-femoral syndrome.

Introduction: Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles is a simple and low-cost method. In addition, finding new therapeutic effects for silver nanoparticles is considered as an attractive field in cancer research. In the present study, synthesis of silver nanoparticles was performed by aqueous leaf extract of barberry. The effects of Ag nanoparticles were evaluated on cell viability and expression levels of ODC1 gene of the human breast cancer cell line (MDA-MB-231).
Materials and Methods: The synthetic nanoparticles were analyzed by UV-vis spectrophotometry and Transmission Electron Microscopy. The cultured cancer cells were treated under different concentrations of synthesized nanoparticles. The viability of the cells was analyzed by MTT assay and relative expression of ODC1 gene by Real-Time PCR.
Results: TEM photomicrographs showed that the spherical silver nanoparticles have been synthesized with an average size of 16 nm. The results showed cytotoxicity of silver nanoparticles in a time and dose-dependent manner. The average IC50 calculated was 16.48 µg/ml. The results also showed that silver nanoparticles decreased ODC1 gene expression levels about 4 folds at 20 µg/ml nanoparticles compared to control.
Conclusion: It seems that green synthesized silver nanoparticles through the gradual release of silver ions in the acidic environment of the cancer cells and production of oxygen radicals, as well as reduction of ODC1gene expression cause diminish of cancer cell viability.

Introduction: Metabolic syndrome is known as a risk factor for dementia and various degrees of cognitive impairment. The aim of this study was to Comparative study of diagnostic value of Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA) and Mini–Mental state examination (MMSE) tests for assessment and cognitive impairments screening in patients with metabolic syndrome.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was performed on 107 patients with metabolic syndrome. Cognitive impairment was examined by MoCA and MMSE tests. Data were analyzed by SPSS 18 software.
Results: Mean score of MMSE and MoCa tests were 23.28 ± 2.66 and 22.06 ± 2.93, respectively. 84 patients (78.5%) had a MoCA test impairment (cognitive impairment). Based on the MMSE test, 66 patients (61.68%) had cognitive impairment. The sensitivity and specificity of the MMSE test were 73.81% and 82.61% respectively. MMSE diagnostic test with age (p=0.000, CC= -0.459), BMI (p = 0.000, CC = -0.338), FBS (p = 0.000, CC=-0.51), the levels of triglyceride (TG) (p = 0.000, CC = -0.56) and HDL (p = 0.000, CC = -0.54) were significantly correlated.
Conclusion: Cognitive impairment is noticeable in patients with metabolic syndrome and it seems that metabolic syndrome markers such as fasting blood glucose, triglyceride levelsand ets associated with cognitive impairment in these patients. MMSE test is a desirable sensitivity and specificity in evaluating cognitive impairment in patients with metabolic syndrome. However, because of the lack of studies in this field, are recommended for more comprehensive conclusions.

Introduction: Epilepsy is a chronic and multifactorial disease characterized by sudden and repeated seizures. Carbamazepine is the most common medicine for treating epilepsy. Today, the use of LFS as an alternative treatment is considered in patients resistant to drugs. Therefore, in this research, the effects of LFS and carbamazepine on epilepsy in dorsal hippocampus by using Kindling method on the seizure indices have been compared in adult male rats.
Materials and Methods: In this study, 50 adult male rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: Kindle (KND), KLFS, MCK, CBZ20K and CBZ40K. Kindle's group received a daily stimulant of Kindling in a fast way, in the CA1 region of the dorsal hippocampus. In other groups, daily Kindling stimuli, similar to the Kindle group, were applied. In the Kindle + LFS (KLFS) group, LFS stimuli were immediately triggered after the kindling. In methylcellulose + kindling (MCK) group, before stimulation, the amount was 0.2ml solution of methylcellulose 0.5% was given intraperitoneally. Drug + Kindling (CBZ20K and CBZ40K) groups received intraperitoneal carbamazepine 20mg / kg or 40mg / kg, respectively, before receiving kindling stimuli.
Results: Findings from this study indicate that the use of LFS or carbamazepine significantly reduced the mean seizure severity, total seizure duration, and the duration of afterdischarge in the KLFS and CBZ40K groups compared to the KND group (p <0.05). The important point is that the effective dose of CBZ has a more reduced effect on seizure indices than LFS.
Conclusion: Regarding the results, it seems that, the effective dose of CBZ to be more effective than LFS stimulation following the hippocampal kindling in reducing seizure indices.
