Abstract
Abstract
Neurofibromatosis type I (NF 1) is an autosomal-dominant hereditary disease involving neuroectodermal tissues; skin lesions are one of the clinical manifestations of it. Also, kyphoscoliosis dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint and pectus carinatum in this genetic disease can cause cardiorespiratory problems and lead to difficulty managing the airway, especially in surgery. This study was approved by the Deputy of Research and Technology of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran (Ethics Code: IR.SBMU.RETECH.REC.1404.1091). Hereby, we report a cesarean section (C/S) of an NF patient with different skin lesions. The patient was a 35-year-old nulliparous pregnant woman affected by NF-1. She presented with subcutaneous/cutaneous neurofibromas and café-au-lait spots, which progressively enhanced in number and size during pregnancy. She underwent the cesarean section to deliver the neonate. Not only does our case highlight the section and other surgery challenges about dermatologic manifestations of type I neurofibromatosis, but it also emphasizes a favorable pregnancy outcome that can occur in pregnant women with NF.
