Background & Objectives: For the past 50 years, anabolic steroids have been at the forefront of the controversy due to their various effects on athletes' performance. So the aim of the present study was to examine the effects of anabolic steroids abuse, during and after the withdrawal of the drug usage, on liver enzymes and blood albumin of bodybuilders. Materials & Methods: The study is causative-comparative research, and 40 males (Age: 26.62±6.8 years, height: 175.89±9.2 cm, weight: 77.17±12.7) were participated in this study, who were divided into four groups of ten members: athletes are using steroids, athletes with a history of drug usage who had given away its usage at least for 2 months, athletes with a history of at least 6 months of giving away using steroid and athletes with no history of steroid use. 12-hour fasting blood samples were collected at eight o'clock in the morning, and the data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and a post hoc test. Results: The results of this study showed higher degradation of both enzymes (ALT, AST) in the first group as compared to the other groups (p<%5). The destruction of these two enzymes (AST, ALT) was higher in second group as compared to the third and fourth groups (p<%5). However, the destruction of the two enzymes (ALT, AST) in the third group was not significant as compared to the fourth group. (p<%5). Albumin and (ALP) levels were normal in all groups and their changes were not significant (p>%5). Conclusion: Steroid drugs have devastating effects on the liver cells. So those, even after two months of stopping drug consumption, their side effects are still apparent in athletes who had used them. But it seems that their negative effects on liver enzymes decrease over time.

Background: Nicotine is one of the ingredients in cigarettes. Nicotine is toxic to the brain, cardiovascular system and respiratory tract and the body tissues. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of nicotine on the enzymes alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP), glucose, and insulin lipid profile in diabetic rats.
Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 50 Wistar adult male rats weighing 220-250 g were used and divided into five groups of 10, including control (no treatment), diabetic control, and experimental (diabetic mice) groups 1, 2 and 3 that treated with 0.125, 0.25 and 0.5 mg/kg nicotine, respectively. In this study, diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of 60 mg/kg of streptozotocin (STZ). At the end of the treatment period, blood samples were taken from mice and serum enzymes AST, ALP, ALT; and LDL, HDL, cholesterol, triglycerides, insulin and glucose levels were measured. Data analyses were performed in SPSS software 18, using ANOVA and Tukey test.
Results: The results showed a significant increase in the concentration of enzymes ALT, AST and ALP; and glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL levels; but a significant decrease in HDL level in the experimental group compared with the control group.
Conclusion: Nicotine increases the complications of diabetes, such as increase in glucose, lipids and liver enzymes ALP, AST and ALT.

Materials and Methods: In the experimental study 48 rats were divided into 6 groups of 8 , namely control, sham and 4experimental.Control group didn’t received anythings , sham group received only distilled water. The experimental group 1 Number 1 received saffron hydro alcoholic extract with 50mg/kg dose for 15 days.Experimental groups 3, 4, 5, initially received vitamin A 50000IU for 15 days. The experimental groups 4,5 received saffron hydro alcoholic extract with 50,80 (mg/kg )dose for 15 days. Background and Purpose: Liver is one of the vital organs which has a key role in regulating most physiologic mechanisms and any disorder in hepatic function can cause a series of physiologic and anatomical disorders and still other diseases. Since Mentha pulegium has been used extensively in traditional medicine the aim of the present investigation is to study of the effects of the Hudro-Alcoholic Extract of the Mentha Pulegium Leaves on hepatic functions. Methods and Materials: In this experimential study 50 Wistar male rats (about 220- 230 g) were used in five groups of tens including: control group receiving nothing sham group receiving distilled water and 3 experimental groups receiving 400 800 and 1600 (mg/kg) of the Hydro-Alcohol Extract of Mentha Pulegium Leaves respectively. The obtained data were analyzed by t-test using SPSS and Microsoft Excel. Results: According to the results there is a significant reduction in the level of ALT AST in experimental groups. In addition the level of ALP showed a significant increase. Regarding albumin and total protein there has been a decline in the experimental groups receiving the highest dose of the extract and asignifilant reduction in the total body weight in proportion to the increased dosage of the extract. Conclusion: The Hydro-Alcoholic extract of mentha pulegium leaves probably has a significant effect on hepatic function. This effect may be due to the presence of Flavonoids (Hesperidin diosmine) antioxidant tannin and pulegone in the extract. This effect is reflected in the reduction of ALT AST and the increase in ALP. Also it can be attributed to the decrease in the hepatic serum level of the albumin and total protein
