Background: Adjustment disorder is one of the most common psychiatric disorders, and it is important to determine the factors involved in it. This study investigated the predictive role of individual, social, and psychological determinants in adjustment disorder.
Materials and Methods: The current research design is descriptive and correlational. The statistical population of the research includes 402 people living in Tehran, who were selected through the convenience sampling method. Data were collected using the International Adjustment Disorder Questionnaire (IADQ), Death Anxiety Scale (DAS), Fear of Covid-19 Scale (FCV-19S), Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale (MSPSS) and the Connor-Davidson Resilience scale (CD-RISC) was collected and analyzed using SPSS-26 software with multiple linear regression analysis in a stepwise method.
Results: The results of the correlation test showed a significant relationship between predicting variables of fear of infected by Covid-19, perceived social support, resilience, and marital status with adjustment disorder, and the results of multiple linear regression showed that adjustment disorder was explained by the highest contribution of resilience variables (0.220). β=-, P=0.000), perceived social support (β=-0.153, P=0.003), fear of infected by Corona (β=0.150, P=0.002) and status Marriage was (β=0.109, P=0.031).
Conclusion: Resilience, perceived social support, fear of infected by COVID-19 and marital status play a role in adjustment disorder and can explain the variability of adjustment disorder. As a result, it seems important to consider these variables in people with adjustment disorder.

Introduction: Anxiety is a common problem in caesarean section patients that can have adverse consequences. Benson relaxation can be useful as a complementary medicine method to reduce anxiety. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Benson's relaxation on the anxiety level of primiparous pregnant women applying for cesarean section.
Materials and Methods: This semi-experimental interventional study was conducted among 132 primiparous pregnant women who had beeb referred to the Shahada Qain Medical Training Center for elective cesarean section in 2021. The participants in the study were selected by available sampling method and were randomly divided into two intervention and control groups. In the intervention group, the samples were given relaxation training through headphones.The Spielberger questionnaire was used to determine anxiety. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 16) and paired t-test, independent t-test and chi-square. The significance level of P<0.05was considered.
Results: Before the intervention, there was no significant difference between the demographic and background variables, the mean variables,overt, hidden, and total anxiety in the two groups (P>0.05). After the intervention, the comparison of the two groups showed that the mean scores of overt, hidden and total anxiety in the intervention group significantly decreased compared to the control group (P<0.05).
Conclusion: Despite the reduction of anxiety in the intervention group, the results indicated that the total and obvious anxiety in the control group also decreased significantly after the intervention. It seems that factors other than Benson's relaxation technique in this research, such as studying mothers, participating in pregnancy classes have been able to reduce anxiety among the research samples.

Introduction: Since the anxiety is one of the effective factors in athletes, The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on reducing anxiety in Martial Athletes.Materials and Methods: The research method was semi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design and control group. The statistical population of the present study consisted of all Martial Athletes in Ardabil in 2022. 30 people were selected by available sampling method and randomly assigned in experimental and control group (15 people in each group). Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) was implemented in 10 sessions, each session lasting 20 minutes, but the control group received no training. Data was collected using State-Trait Anxiety Questionnaire (Moritz, 1990), which were administered in two stages of pre-test and post-test. Data were analyzed using SPSS software and multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA).Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference between the post-test scores of the experimental group compared to the control group. In other words, transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) led to a significant increase in the self-confidence scores and a significant decrease in the physical and cognitive anxiety scores of the athletes (P<0.05).Conclusion: According to the results of this study, the treatment of transcranial direct current stimulation is an effective intervention on reducing anxiety in Martial Athletes and is a suitable, low-cost and accessible way that athletes can use.

Introduction: Selective attention and misunderstanding of body image can lead to anxiety. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of interpersonal psychotherapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy on loneliness caused by body image in women referred to cosmetic surgery centers.
Materials and Methods: The present study is a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest with a control group. The statistical population of the study was all women aged 23-40 years who referred to beauty centers in Mashhad, 45 of whom were selected by random sampling in three groups of 15 people. Then an anxiety questionnaire was administered and sessions of two treatments were performed. At the end of the post-test sessions.
Results: Research has shown that cognitive-behavioral method is more effective than interpersonal psychotherapy on the feeling of loneliness in women referred to cosmetic surgery centers.
Conclusion: The best sign for cosmetic surgery seems to be a lack of self-confidence with a tendency to social interaction and an extreme focus on a particular physical feature. The effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy in reducing body image anxiety can be due to the important role of mental interpretations and behavioral habits on anxiety. Improving the state of perception of the body in a person with anxiety reduces the selective attention to a point in the body and thus reduces anxiety.

Introduction: Due to the work in emergency situations, having high work technique and large volume of work, the operating room is known as a stressful part. Which can cause problems for the personnel working in it. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of deep breathing on anxiety, fatigue and sleep quality of operating room personnel.
Materials and Methods: This clinical trial was performed by pre-test-post-test method in 2020 on operating room technologists and anesthesia technicians. Thirty-five people who met the inclusion criteria were randomly selected and performed deep breathing exercises for four weeks. Multidimensional fatigue intensity, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality and Beck Anxiety Questionnaires were completed and compared before, two weeks and four weeks after the intervention.
Results: The mean anxiety score changed from 19.65 ± 9.57 to 14.2 ± 6.34 after two weeks and 10.68 ± 5.67 after four weeks. The mean fatigue scores changed from 64.37 ± 10.07 to 56.79 ± 8.72 and then 52.75 ± 8.76 Which is quite significant in both time effects (P <0.001). The average sleep quality score changed from 9.89 ± 3.41 to 8.92 ± 2.7 and then 7.71 ± 2.7. There was no significant difference in the previous time - 2 weeks later (P = 0.57). However, at 2-4 weeks later, There was significant difference (P = 0.04).
Conclusion: Due to the positive effects of deep breathing on operating room personnel, the use of this non-pharmacological and uncomplicated method is recommended to maintain the mental and physical health of personnel and increase safety and quality of work.

Introduction: Asthma is one of the most common chronic respiratory diseases and one of the main problems of health care systems in many societies around the world, including Iran. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of immunization against stress on anxiety, perceived stress and adherence of treatment in patients with asthma.Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 30 patients with asthma aged 25 to 55 years were selected and divided into experimental and control groups. Participants first completed research questionnaires. First, the participants completed the research questionnaires. Then, the stress immunization training package was implemented in 9 sessions for the experimental group. Then the research questionnaires were completed after the sessions and again after three months. The instruments of this study include Beck Anxiety Scale, Cohen Perceived Stress Questionnaire and the scale of adherence to the treatment. In order to analyze the data, repeated measures analysis of variance test was used in SPSS software version 20.Results: The results showed that the difference between groups was significant for the perceived stress variables (p = 0.023) and treatment follow-up (p = 0.003) but was not significant for the anxiety variable (p = 0.360). Therefore, immunization training against stress had a significant effect on perceived stress and adherence to treatment of patients with asthma.Conclusion: Immunization against stress by reducing perceived stress in patients with asthma, in addition to reducing the risk of asthma attacks by improving adherence of treatment these patients leads to better control of their disease.

Background: A hearing-impaired child often has communication problems and Communication problems can lead to social and behavioral problems therefore the purpose of the present study is Survey the effectiveness of group play therapy with cognitive-behavioral approach on anxiety and self-esteem of deaf students.Materials & Methods: The present study was a quasi-experimental study with pretest, post-test design and control group. The statistical population of this study included all elementary deaf students in Alborz province in 1398-99. The number of students was 45, of which 30 students were selected by available sampling method and were randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. Spence children anxiety scale and Cooper Smith self-esteem inventory were used to collect data.results: The Findings show that the level of anxiety in deaf children in the experimental group and after performing play therapy with cognitive-behavioral approach has decreased compared to the control group (p <0.05). Also, the findings indicate that the self-esteem of deaf children in the experimental group compared to the control group in the post-test had a significant increase at the level of 0.05.Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, group play therapy is an effective way to reduce anxiety and increase and strengthen the self-esteem of deaf students. It seems necessary to holding group play therapy sessions in special schools for the deaf.

Introduction: Workaholism can be enjoyable, but at the same time, frustrating and problematic with positive and negative repercussions. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between workaholism and depression and anxiety levels in specialist physicians of hospitals affiliated to Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences during 2017-2018.
Materials and methods: This correlation study, The statistical population of this study included all specialist physicians in hospitals affiliated to Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences that selected by census method. The research instruments used were Beck Depression Inventory, and Spielberger state-trait anxiety inventory, The Spence and Robbins Questionnaires also were used for workaholism. For analyzing data, SPSS-20 software and descriptive and inferential statistical methods (Correlation Coefficient, Regression) were applied.
Results: The results indicated that there was a significant and relatively strong relation between workaholism and its components with anxiety and depression (p<0/05). Workaholism can also predict depression and anxiety (p<0/05).
Conclusion: The current study shows that work can be a reason of diseases if employees get addicted to it. Thus organizations should pay more attention to this fact that working hard in work place, is not always beneficial for individuals and organization both. So managers have to consider ways to prevent these dangerous consequences which can be harmful for their employee’s health.

Introduction: Brain-Behavioral Systems contribute to the development of wide variety of emotional disorders, including anxiety and depression. The aim of this study was to compare the Brain- Behavioral Systems in patients with anxiety, patients with depression, and healthy individuals.
Materials and Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study in which 45 individuals with anxiety (moderate to high score in Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and low score in BDI-II) and 45 individuals with depression (moderate to high score in Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) and low score in BAI) who referred to private and public health centers in Jiroft were selected through purposive sampling and matched with 45 healthy individuals (low score in BDI-II and BAI) for age and gender. After informed consent, participants were asked to fill the questionnaires including Jackson-5 Scale, 2nd version of Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II), and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and were allocated to different groups based on the score of the questionnaires. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance by spss21 software.
Results: Result showed that there were significant differences between three groups in Behavior Inhibition System, Fight, Flight and Freeze. Also, the differences were not significant in Behavioral Activation System.
Conclusion: Given the different functions of the Brain -Behavioral Systems in patients with anxiety, patients with depression, and healthy individuals, this theory may explain the etiology of anxiety and depression.

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of group therapy based on mindfulness oriented recovery enhancement approach on Cognitive Reactivity to Sad Mood and Pain-Related Anxiety among Chronic Pain Patients.Materials & Methods: This study is quasi-experimental with control group. The statistical population included all the patients with chronic pain at Ahwaz who have been referred to Health Center (Hospitals with specialized clinics of physical medicine and orthopedics) in summer 2017. 30 chronic pain patients were selected through recall and in a voluntary method based on pain specialist diagnosis and randomly allocated into two experimental(n=15) and control (n=15) groups. Both groups were tested before. The experimental group for eight sessions of 120-minute group therapy were based on mindfulness oriented recovery enhancement approach. Control group members did not receive any interventions. Data through questionnaires study were Index of Depression Sensitivity-Revised Version (LEIDS-R) and Pain Anxiety Symptoms Scale (PASS). Research data to way multivariate analysis of variance were analyzed by SPSS 21 software.Results: The results of multivariate analysis of covariance with significance level (p > 0.0001) on the hypothesis show a significant difference between the two groups at post-test, that represents the effectiveness of mindfulness oriented recovery enhancement approach group therapy based on Cognitive Reactivity to Sad Mood and Pain-Related Anxiety among Chronic Pain Patients.Conclusion: The conclusion of the study is based on group therapy, mindfulness oriented recovery enhancement approach is to reduce. Background and objectives: Mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder suffer from stress, anxiety and depression. The aim of this study was to determine the Mindfulness-Based Positive Behavior Support on stress, depression and anxiety of these mothers.Methods: Thirty mothers with children aged 6-8 years old with autism spectrum disorder were selected randomly from Gorgan Special Schools and were randomly divided into 2 groups of intervention and control. An expert psychiatrist educated MBPBS to the intervention group in 8 sessions. The assessment tools included the Perceived Stress Scale, Beck Depression and Anxiety Inventory, completed by all mother before, immediately and one month after the intervention. Independent t-test was used to compare the two groups. Introduction: Inappropriate emotional reactions such as anxiety and depression is very evident in today’s societies, affecting and causing too many problems for nurses, then effect on the quality of providing health cares. According to the nurses' exposure to mental health disorders, the purpose of the present research is to study empathy moderating role in relationship between psychological capital with depression and anxiety of nurses.
Materials and Methods: This research is an exploratory research of correlation plans. Based on Morgan Table were selected 217 subjects of employed nurses (100 male and 117 female) as hospitals of Sabzevar in spring 2018 by available sampling. In order to obtain data, Luthans et al (2007), psychological capital questionnaire, Baron-Cohen empathy(2003), and Anxiety and Depression Scale of Zigmond and Snaith Hospital (1983),were used. Data were analyzed by Pearson correlation coefficient and multivariate regression analyses by SPSS-22 software.
Results: Findings of the present research showed that there are negative significant relationship between psychological capital and hospital of anxiety and depression of nurses (p<0.01). also empathy is mediating role in relationship between psychological capital and clinical symptoms of anxiety and depression(p<0.01).
Conclusion: According to the findings of the research, it can be concluded that empathy can be mediated relationship psychological capital and hospital clinical symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Introduction:Severe stressful incidents are associated with the risk of mental disorders such as depression and anxiety. Regarding the adverse effects of anti-depressants/anxiety drugs, researcher’s attention have been focused on finding natural ingredients. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of Adiantum capillus veneris extract on depression and anxiety induced by acute stress in male rats.
Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 40 male Balb/C mice were randomly divided into 5 groups including control group (under acute stress receiving normal saline), intervention groups (under acute stress receiving extract of Adiantum capillus venerisat doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg), and positive control (under acute stress receiving diazepam). Acute stress was induced by electric shock (0.5 mA, 2 min) and immobilization in restrainer (2 hours) for one time. Extract and drug were administered intraperitoneally for 21 days and then anxiety, depression and Motor activity were evaluated by forced swimming, elevated plus maze (EPM) and open filed tests respectively.
Results: Treatment of stressed mice with different doses of Adiantum capillus veneris extractsignificantly decreased the immobility time in the forced swimming test in comparison with the control group (P <0.05). Treatment of stressed mice with 400 mg/kg of Adiantum capillus veneris extractsignificantly increased the entry into the open arms and significantly decreased the number of entery into the closed arms of EPM (P<0.05). Different doses of extract had no significant effect on the number of line-crossing in the open field test as compared with the control group.
Conclusion: Adiantum capillus veneris extract showed antidepressant and anti-anxiolytic effects in mice under acute stress.

Materials & Methods: In a quasi-experimental design pretest-posttest control group design, a total of 30 girls of University of Kurdistan at the year between 2014-2015 who had higher range at determined cut-off point in Revised Rigid Restraint Scale, after initial clinical assessment and qualifications of the study, purposive sampling method selected and randomly assigned to two experimental (Compassion-Focused Therapy, n=15) and control groups (n=15). Effect of neiguan point acupressure on anxiety in patients are candidates for inguinal herniorrhaphy AbstractBackground: Anxiety is common and distressing symptoms that patients experience before surgery. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of ear acupressure on anxiety in appendectomy candidate patients.Materials and methods: This is a one-blinded randomized control trial study including 88 patients divided in 2 groups who were scheduled to appendectomy surgery in sabzevar hospitals. Participants were selected using convenience sampling method and randomly divided into two groups: intervention and sham. The intervention patients which received acupressure bracelet with real button at the neiguan (PC6) point and sham group which received acupressure bracelet without button at the neiguan (PC6) point for 5 minutes. The data were analyzed by SPSS software (20 V) and SAS (9.2 V), descriptive and Inferential statistics were used. P-values less than 0.05 were considered significant.Results: Based on the results of study, applying acupressure significantly reduce the severity of anxiety in the intervention groups compare with sham group.Conclusion: acupressure at the neiguan (PC6) point can decrease severity of anxiety in appendectomy candidate patients

Background & Objectives: Visual acuity has an important role in the elderly’s communication with the environment. Cataract is a major cause of reduced visual acuity in the elderly, which can be treated only through surgery. Like in any other surgery, the elderly who should undergo cataract surgery experience a lot of anxiety. Relaxation techniques are of the procedures that can lead to stress reduction and create comfort and relaxated people. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the effect of guided imagery on pre-operation anxiety and hemodynamic factors in the elderly undergoing cataract surgery.
Materials & Methods: The present randomized clinical trial recruited 50 elderly patients undergoing cataract surgery who met the inclusion criteria in the period of August to December 2014 through purposive sampling from patients at Vasei Hospital in Sabzevar, Iran, and randomly assigned them to the case and control groups. The control group received routine care and the case group received guided imagery using an audio file. Spielberger’s anxiety inventory and checklist of physiological changes were used to collect data. The data were analyzed using statistical tests by SPSS 16 software at a desirable significance level, independent t tests, chi-square test, fisher exact test and ANOVA.
Result: The mean of hemodynamic factors did not significantly differ in the two groups before intervention (p>0.05), but significantly reduced systole blood pressure (p<0.001), diastole blood pressure (p<0.01) and respiration (p<0.001).
Conclusion: Guided imagery can effectively reduce physiological responses of anxiety before surgery in the elderly. Hence, it is suggested that clinical nurses and nursing students use it for better nursing services.

Objectives Insomnia is one of the common disorders whose relationship with depression and anxiety is widely discussed. The current study aimed at investigating the epidemiology of insomnia and its relationship with depression and anxiety among male prisoners. Methods In the current study, 110 male prisoners were selected through the convenient sampling method. To collect data, Pittsburgh sleep quality index, Beck depression inventory, and Beck anxiety inventory were used. Data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis and Pearson correlation coefficient.Results Depression and anxiety had a significant relationship with insomnia (P<0.0001). The results of multiple regression analysis showed that depression and anxiety could predict the insomnia with 0.29 variance.Conclusion Given the high prevalence of insomnia among prisoners and its relationship with depression and anxiety, it seems necessary to provide psychological services to decrease insomnia and its underlying factors.

Background: Patients with chronic renal failure on hemodialysis are affected by psychological stresses, besides many physiological changes. Nowadays, complementary medicine is one of the methods to control these stresses. This study aimed to investigate the effect of acupressure on anxiety in patients with hemodialysis in TorbatHeidarie city. Methods and Materials: This is a randomized clinical trial with control group. 81 patients with hemodialysis were recruited into acupressure at true points group (27 patients), acupressure at false points group (27 patients), and control group (27 patients) using permutation block in NohomDey educational hospital and Dialysis Clinic of TorbatHeidarie city in 2014. Anxiety of patients of all groups was measured using Spielberger anxiety questionnaire before intervention and from the end of first week till the end of fourth week after intervention. The acupressure at true points group received the acupressure on the true points applied two times a week for four weeks. The acupressure at false points group received the acupressure on 2-3cm far from the true points. Statistical analysis was performed using Kruskal Wallis and Friedman tests with SPSS version 16 at 0.05 significance level. Results: The acupressure at true points group and acupressure at false points group had significantly different mean levels of apparent and hidden anxiety at “before intervention” stage and “first to fourth week” (p=0.005, p=0.027). The average level of apparent anxiety of “before intervention” and “first-fourth week” was statistically significantly different at acupressure at false points group, but the hidden anxiety was not different at this scenario. The average level of apparent and hidden anxiety of “before intervention” and “first-fourth week” was not statistically significantly different in control group. Conclusion: Findings from this study indicates that the acupressure therapy at true points is able to reduce apparent and hidden anxiety of patients with hemodialysis.

Background and purpose: Stress and anxiety as important and common disorders in humane societies can lead to many other diseases. Due to the relatively high side effects of tranquilizers and anti-anxiety chemicals, the tendency to use herbal medicines as a treatment for anxiety disorders is increasing. This study evaluated the effects of alcoholic extract of Papaver rhoeas on anxiety in elevated plus maze, weight and plasma corticosterone levels in rats. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 56 adult male rats were used. They were assigned to 7 groups of 8 animals including control group (no treatment), sham 1 (receiving saline), sham 2 (exposure to plus maze) and three experimental groups that received doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg alcoholic extract of Papaver rhoeas via intraperitoneal injections. Elevated plus maze was used to measure anxiety. The number of ties mice were present in the open and closed arms of the maze was calculated and their plasma levels and body weight were measured. The data were analyzed using SPSS-18 via one-way ANOVA and Tukey follow-up tests. Results: The results showed that the alcoholic extract of Papaver rhoeas at the given doses increased the number of entries into the open arms of elevated plus maze. It increased weight gain of animals and reduced plasma corticosterone levels at doses 200 and 400 mg/kg at pConclusion: Probably due to its sedative properties and its morphine materials, Papaver rhoeas extract reduces anxiety levels and corticosterone and increases the weight of the animals under study.

Background and purpose: cardiac catheterization is one of the most common diagnostic and therapeutic methods of heart disease, Teaching methods such as group training creates the feeling of comfort and make the patients more relax, as well as it changes their psychological and physiological responses. The present study was conducted to determine the effect of group emotional expressions, on stress level of patients awaiting for cardiac catheterization. Materials and Methods: This interventional study (randomized trial) was carried out on 80 patients undergoing coronary angiography for the first time, in Vasee Hospital of Sabzevar in 2014. The samples were selected according to patients available on random days. In the intervention group, emotional expression method was performed. Data were collected via State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and standard anxiety questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS software using Chi-square, Fisher exact and analysis of covariance. (Significant level=0.05) Results: The average age of participants in this study was about 54.11±10.67 years. Among all patients, 39 participants (48.8%) were male and 41 participants (51.2%) were females. In the intervention group, mean score of STAI decreased significantly in comparision to the control group (p‹0.010). Conclusion: Group expression of emotions affect patient’s anxiety undergoing first time coronary angiography. Therefor it's recommended to use this method befor cardiac catheterization performance.

Background and Purpose: Considering the decrease in biological processes and the increase in the quality and quantity of stress among elderly people, facing death is inevitable and the anxiety associated with it plays an important role in creation of mental disorders. The purpose of the following research is to study the effect of Healthy Life Style Training based on the World Health Model on the death anxiety among elderly people.
Materials and Methods: The population of this research includes all the elderlies in Ilam who live in nursing houses, comprehensive nursing rehabilitation centers and the national welfare organization sponsored institutions in 1392. Samples of the research include 30 of the population who were chosen through multistage random sampling. Templar's Death Anxiety questionnaires were used as an assessing tool in this research. Both groups were given pretests before the training. Then the experimental group was trained for 12 sessions, each session lasting about 45 minutes, during three months. Right away after finishing the training sessions, both groups were given post-tests. A follow-up stage was performed again 3 months later. Covariance analysis and dependent group T-test were used to analyze the data.
Results: The result regarding 3 stages by 95% of confidence confirms the efficiency of the Healthy Life Style Training on the Death Anxiety among elderly people.
Conclusion: Considering the fact that getting old is inevitable, having a healthy lifestyle and intensive care can help in case of having a more enjoyable life time with health and optimal rotation period.

Methods: This study is a quasi-experimental study of two groups before and after hemodialysis on 35 patients of Razi hospital in Rasht (test group) and 35 hemodialysis patients from Bandar Anzali martyr Beheshti hospital (control group), in 1390 which were done on sampling method on purpose. Intervention was based psychiatric rehabilitation of multi-dimensional model in the form of a group and with the presence of a physician, nurse, psychologist and nutritionist and comprehensive client and family and with consideration of physical, mental, social and spiritual of patients, was carried out for three months. The tool includes a demographic questionnaire and Zung self-evaluation anxiety (SAS) which were measured three months before and after intervention. Introduction: when Patients with myocardial infarction are admitted to intensive care unite, they almost always would be anxious. Anxiety increases the risk of ischemia after myocardial infarction and worsens the prognosis of disease. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of inhaling lavender oil on anxiety levels in myocardial infarction patients admitted to Alzahra Heart Hospital, shiraz.
Materials and Methods: This clinical trial study was conducted on 60 patients with a definite diagnosis of myocardial infarction who were admitted to Alzahra Heart Hospital of Shiraz in 2014. The permuted block randomization method was used. In order to this, Patients were allocated into two intervention (n=30) and control (n=30) groups randomly. In intervention group, participated inhaled the essential oil of Lavender via a non absorbent paper stained with three drops of lavender oil for three times a day and 20-30 minutes every once during three days. In another group, distilled water was used instead of lavender oil in the same way. The data were analyzed using SPSS software version 11/5 with Chi-square, paired t test, and Analysis of Covariance in a significance level of .95%.
Results: in the case group, the average of state and trait anxiety level before of intervention was 60/56±9/29 and 55/73±10/22, respectively decreasing to 41/56±7/57 and 44/53±7/28 after intervention. The average of state and trait anxiety level in control group were 56/60±10/14 and 54/13±9/17 respectively that increased to 63/30±5/19 and 59/96±7/07 in the end of the study. Statistically, the paired t test showed a significant difference in the level of anxiety before and after intervention between both groups (p
