General terms and conditions for submitting papers

The journal of Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences, with the aim of expanding and publishing the scientific and research activities of national and international researchers in various fields of medical sciences, accepts research papers by professors and researchers in various fields of medical sciences. Research papers, review papers (provided that at least three sources from corresponding author are referenced in the references section), letter to the editor, reports of rare and interesting cases, and short Communication will be considered for publication in the journal.

  • Submission of a manuscript to Journal of Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences must constitute of original research not previously published, and that it is not being considered for publication elsewhere.
  • Manuscripts submitted under multiple authors are reviewed on the assumption that all listed authors have agreed on the submission and that a copy of the final manuscript has been approved by all authors.
  • The manuscript would be peer-reviewed by related specialists. If accepted, the article shall not be published elsewhere, without the consent of the Editors and Publisher.
  • Articles should be written in Persian Full-text and English Abstract and Extended English Abstract & Bibliography.
  • The layout and style should adhere strictly to guide for author
  • The author(s) must declare that all experiments on human subjects were conducted with the adequate understanding and written consent of the subjects.
  • When experimental animals are used, the methods section must clearly indicate that adequate measures were taken to minimize pain or discomfort.
  • All animal experiments must be approved by local animal care and use committees.
  • Submission items include Cover Letter, Reviewer Suggestions (at least 3), Manuscript including Title Page, Abstract, Main text), Acknowledgements, References and Tables/Figure Legends, Tables and Figures.
  • Text files (double-spaced) of the manuscript should be supplied in Microsoft Word format (Doc, Docx).

 

ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS

Journal of Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences (JSUMS) is committed to apply ethics of publication, based on the COPE’s Code of Conduct and Best Practices. Also, in medical studies, JSUMS has engaged to apply ethics of research, based on Declaration of Helsinki: Statement of Ethical Principles for Medical Research. In addition, JSUMS has promised to apply ethics of research, based on American Psychological Association’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct, in psychological studies. Necessary forms of the publication

  • Commitment Form

 

  • All people whose names appear as authors in the article are aware of the text of the article and its submission to this publication.
  • All authors have participated in the preparation of the article, analysis and interpretation of information and critical review of the content of the article.
  • The names of the authors and the order of the names will not change after the submission of the article.
  • The article has not been submitted to another journal at the same time and will not be submitted to another journal until the final results are announced by the Journal of Sabzevar University of Medical Science. Also, the content of the article has not been published anywhere else before.
  • By signing this form, the authors transfer the copyright to Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences. All rights except copyright are reserved for the authors.

 

  • Conflicts of interest
  • Journal of Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences (JSUMS) is committed to apply ICMJE recommendation on “Author Responsibilities—Conflicts of Interest in authors’ conflict of interest issues.
  • Authors should disclose, at the time of submission, information on financial conflicts of interest or other interests that may influence the manuscript. Authors should declare sources of funding for the work undertaken, too. So, completion and signing the Form of Conflict of interest is necessary for all authors and the articles submission won’t be accepted without filling this form.
  • Plagiarism

Journal of Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences (JSUMS) has accepted all terms and conditions of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) on plagiarism. So, in any case of plagiarism, which is brought to the journal’s editor’s attention and accompanied with convincing evidence, we act based on flowcharts and workflows determined in COPE. Meanwhile, to detect and prevent plagiarism in the journal articles, all submissions will be checked with Hamyab and Samim Noor in both stages of submission and acceptance.

Creating profiles on Google Scholar and PubMed:

 All authors must give the access link to their ORCID, PubMed and Google Scholar when submitting a paper. Therefore, if an author does not have a profile in PubMed and Google scholar, he should register in these databases to create a profile. If he does not have a profile, the paper will not be sent to reviewing process.

The date of sending the paper should be entered in Persian and English.

 

 

Guide for writing original article

Papers in Persian with an extended English abstract are reviewed. The order of the sections of the paper is as follows:

1- English abstract (maximum 250 words)

2- Extended abstract in English (1000-1500 words)

3- Persian abstract (up to 250 words)

4- Main text in Persian (up to 3500 words)

5- References

 

ABSTRACT

Abstract should be included: Background, Materials and Methods, Results, Conclusion and Keywords

Keywords: keyword up to 6 words arranged in alphabetical order.

 

Extended Abstract 

Extended Abstract must contain all relevant aspects and information of a regular research in a form that is shorter than the full text. Subtitles of the extended abstract should be composed of Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion (selective) and Conclusion. All abstracts should be written in English with Times New Roman font, single line spacing and 11 font size and can contain figures (up to 2), tables (up to 2), or images (up to 2) and should not exceed 4 pages (including all figures, tables) or from 1000 to 1500 words. It should follow the suggested template below.

 

INTRODUCTION (Title Times New Roman font, 12 font size, bold).

Current literature regarding the work subject should be examined and the differences of the said work from the past, similar works should be presented clearly in the introduction section.

METHODOLOGY

The methodology must be clearly stated and described in sufficient detail. The author shall explain the research question, describe the research framework, and the methods applied in detail. It should be furthermore highlighted why the research question is relevant to theory and practice, and why the chosen method(s) are suited for the problem.

RESULTS

Presentation of the result obtained. If possible, use descriptive tables or figures rather than explain in text. Do not discuss or interpret the results at this stage. Tables or figures must be numbered. Tables or figures captions must be centered in 12 p.t with small caps. Captions with figure numbers must be placed after their associated tables.

DISCUSSION

Discussion the results. Put your results in perspective by comparing to other studies or generally accepted knowledge in the field. Criticize your own method and results for example, with respect to the simplifications made.

CONCLUSION

Conclusions should include (1) the principles and generalizations inferred from the results, (2) any exceptions, problems or limitations of the work, and (3) theoretical and/or practical implications of the work, and (4) conclusions drawn and recommendations.

 ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Collate acknowledgements in this separate section at the end of the end of the text. List here those individuals who provided help during the research (e.g., funding the project, providing language help, writing assistance or proof reading the paper, etc.).

CONFLICT OF INTEREST

Conflict of interest statement must be placed at the manuscript as below: “the authors declare that there are no conflict of interest regarding the publication of this manuscript”.

 

 

The title of the paper in Persian (with font 14)

Short title

  1. B) Persian abstract of the paper:

The summary of the paper should be a maximum of 250 words. The titles of the main sections of the abstract include:

  • Background and purpose
  • Materials and methods
  • Results
  • Conclusion

At the end of the abstract, it is necessary to bring keywords (3-6 words) suitable for the title and text of the paper based on Mesh. The Persian abstract must match the English abstract.

  1. C) The main body of the research paper (Original paper) includes the following:
  • Introduction
  • Materials and methods
  • Results
  • Discussion and conclusion
  • Acknowledgments
  • Ethical considerations (It is necessary to mention the code of ethics in this section)
  • Contribution of the authors
  • Financial support
  • Conflict of interest
  • References (Reference numbers in the text should be given in parentheses in order of use)
  1. D) Important points:
  • The introduction should not be more than 500 words. Its verbs are in the present tense.
  • Verbs of materials, methods and results are in the past tense. In this section, the code of ethics should be mentioned.
  • The discussion and conclusion should not be more than 1200 words and the first paragraph should be a summary of the results.
  1. E) Tables and charts:

The number of tables and diagrams should be proportional to the volume of the paper and should not exceed 4. Avoid bringing tables and charts whose information and data are fully mentioned in the text of the paper. Tables and graphs must have complete titles and be typed with Microsoft Word software and Persian numbers like the original text.

  1. F) Photos:

The dimensions of the submitted photos should not be larger than 12 x 8 cm. In the case of photos taken of patients, it is mandatory to cover the parts that identify the patient. The photos must be in JPEG format and have a resolution of 300 dpi, and the exact location of the photos should be specified in the text and its title should be written below the photo. The number of photos should be proportional to the size of the paper and should not exceed 4.

  1. G) How to write references:

References in the text of the paper should be numbered in parentheses and listed in the order of their use in the text at the end. In writing sources, use Vancouver style and use up-to-date sources. The sources should be related to the last 5 years. All English sources should be included. And at least 50% of the sources are related to the PubMed profile. It is necessary to explain that it is mandatory to insert the unique DOI identifier for each source. The method of writing references in the journal of Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences is based on the Vancouver system and is as follows.

If the number of authors is more than 6 people, after mentioning the names of the first 6 authors, the words "and et al" should be mentioned. Then, the title of the paper, the abstract title of the journal, the year of publication, the period, the number of the journal, and the first and last pages should be given in order. Special attention to punctuation is necessary in writing references.

Persian sources must be written in English based on the English translation on the back cover of the magazine (or English summary) and the back cover of the book, and at the end, the word Persian must be written in parentheses.

Guide for writing Review article

The review article must be comprehensive and complete and at least 35 reliable sources have been used in its preparation. Review papers should preferably be 10,000 words or less (excluding refs.) and the main text of the paper contains the introduction, discussion, and acknowledgments. The abstract of the article is in Persian and English (250 words). Just summarizing and reporting the results of others' work is not enough, but theorizing and drawing new conclusions must be done. The abstract of these review articles actually includes the final summary of the review. At least three relevant sources should be provided by the author.

 

Guide for writing Letter to the editor

In the letter to the editor, there is no abstract, table or diagram. Its text contains a maximum of 600 words and has a maximum of 3 sources. The names of three authors should also be mentioned.

Guide for writing Case report

   In the case report, Persian and English abstracts should be set in maximum 100 words and include introduction, patient introduction, conclusion and key words. The text of the paper is a maximum of 1500 words and should include introduction, patient introduction, discussion and references. A maximum of 2 tables or images should be provided.

 

Guide for writing Short Communication

In the short report, the abstract in Persian and English is set in a maximum of 100 words, the main text of the paper contains different parts of an original paper, including the introduction, materials and methods, findings, discussion, conclusion, and acknowledgments, and the maximum it is summarized in 1500 words. The sources of the short report are not more than 15 sources, maximum of 2 tables or images or graphs are used so that the total number of tables, images and graphs does not exceed 2 numbers.

 

Proofs:

Authors will receive proofs by email. Only printer's errors may be corrected; no change in, or additions to, the edited manuscript will be allowed at this stage. The corrected proofs must be returned within 72 hours after receipt by email. If the Publisher receives no reply, the assumption will be made that there are no errors to correct and the article will be published.
