Background:Health-related quality of life is an index of the safety Patients and refers to the measure of a patient's functioning, well-being, and general health perception in each of three domains: physical, psychological, and social. The aim of this study is identify related factors with quality of life in hemodialysis patients.Materials and Methods:In this cross sectional study, 50 hemodialysis patients of 15 to 87 years old in mashad city were participated in 2017. We used checklists which included demographic questionnaire and SF-36 Questionnaire. Descriptive and statistical tests such as mean± standard deviation for quantitative variables, Spearman correlation coefficient,Naparametric test were used. Results:The mean score of quality of life was 43.3±8.2 that in the physical dimension was 42.8 ± 11.9 and in the psychological dimension was 43.9 ± 10.4.The highest mean of quality of life was observed in the men( 42.5 ± 6.1) , singles ( 43.6 ± 5.4), users general vehicles (44.4 ± 8.4) and people with a level of education in the guidance school (43.5±6.7).Age (p=0.04,r=-0.3) and duration to each dialysis session(p=0.007,r=-0.2) with mean score for quality of life were significantly inversely related but the correlation did not significantly with any of the individual characteristics, laboratory factors and clinical factors. The marrage (p=0.03) and duration of each dialysis session (p=0.03) and age(p=0.04) was a significant inversely correlation with the physical dimension. Conclusions: Life quality of Hemodialysis patients is low and authorities need to provide these patients with more social support and see into their welfare.

Background: Patients with chronic renal failure on hemodialysis are affected by psychological stresses, besides many physiological changes. Nowadays, complementary medicine is one of the methods to control these stresses. This study aimed to investigate the effect of acupressure on anxiety in patients with hemodialysis in TorbatHeidarie city. Methods and Materials: This is a randomized clinical trial with control group. 81 patients with hemodialysis were recruited into acupressure at true points group (27 patients), acupressure at false points group (27 patients), and control group (27 patients) using permutation block in NohomDey educational hospital and Dialysis Clinic of TorbatHeidarie city in 2014. Anxiety of patients of all groups was measured using Spielberger anxiety questionnaire before intervention and from the end of first week till the end of fourth week after intervention. The acupressure at true points group received the acupressure on the true points applied two times a week for four weeks. The acupressure at false points group received the acupressure on 2-3cm far from the true points. Statistical analysis was performed using Kruskal Wallis and Friedman tests with SPSS version 16 at 0.05 significance level. Results: The acupressure at true points group and acupressure at false points group had significantly different mean levels of apparent and hidden anxiety at “before intervention” stage and “first to fourth week” (p=0.005, p=0.027). The average level of apparent anxiety of “before intervention” and “first-fourth week” was statistically significantly different at acupressure at false points group, but the hidden anxiety was not different at this scenario. The average level of apparent and hidden anxiety of “before intervention” and “first-fourth week” was not statistically significantly different in control group. Conclusion: Findings from this study indicates that the acupressure therapy at true points is able to reduce apparent and hidden anxiety of patients with hemodialysis.

Background & Purpose: Poor sleep quality is common among hemodialysis patients. On the other hand, hemodialysis patients are encountered with carnitine deficiency. L-carnitine is a dietary supplement that has various metabolic functions and decreases the complications during dialysis. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of oral L-carnitine supplementation on sleep quality in hemodialysis patients.
Materials & Methods: In this double blind randomized clinical trial, 59 qualified hemodialysis patients were gone under investigation in Imam Khomeini Hospital in Shirvan during 2013. Patients were divided into intervention and control groups by permutation blocking method. Patients in the intervention group received 500 mg of L-carnitine supplement twice a day, and the placebo group was similarly taking placebo for 12 weeks. Tools for data collection consist of demographic form and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index which were completed before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed with SPSS statistical software version 11.5 and using independent t-test, Mann-Whitney test, chi-square, Fisher, Wilcoxon tests, Analysis of Covariance and significance level of P0.05.
Results: Before intervention, the mean PSQI scores were 9.6±4.2 and 10.1±4.13, respectively in the drug group and the placebo group and, after the intervention, the scores were, respectively, 6.4±2/8 and 9/7±3/48 that showed significant differences in both groups, compared to baseline(P0.05). Also, The PSQI score decreased by 33% in the intervention group and by 3/9% in the control group. Based on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the lower score demonstrates a better condition of sleep qualiy.
Conclusion: This study showed that oral L-carnitine supplementation can improve sleep quality in hemodialysis patients.

Background: All hemodialysis patients experience some degree of anxiety during hemodialysis. Anxiety increases morbidity and mortality. The aim of this research is to compare the effect of orange essential oil aromatherapy on anxiety of hemodialysis patients. Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial, sixty-two hemodialysis patients were randomly assigned to two groups: an orange oil group (n=31), and a usual care group (n=31). In orange oil group, subjects inhaled orange oil using handkerchiefs smeared with orange oil for 15-20 minutes. This method was used three times a week for four weeks. In the usual care group, subjects received the routine care of the hemodialysis ward. The level of anxiety in the two groups was measured and compared before intervention, as well as after the first, second, third, and fourth weeks of intervention, using Spielberg State-Trait Anxiety Inventory questionnaire. Results: Before intervention, the mean state anxiety scores were 46.9±9.7 and 48.3±11.6 and the mean trait anxiety scores were 46.5±9.2 and 47.9±11.6 in orange oil and usual care groups, respectively. After intervention, the mean state anxiety scores were 35.9±8.7 and 45.1±1.7 and the mean trait anxiety scores were 36.0±10.0 and 45.6±11.8 in orange oil and usual care groups, respectively. In orange oil group, the level of state and trait anxiety decreased significantly compared with usual care group (p

Background and purpose: Oxidative stress is a reaction characterized with an imbalance between Oxidative and antiocidative agents. Lipid perocidation is one of the widely-known biological effects of oxid Oxidative stress. In hemodialysis patients, lipid peroxidation is likely to increase due to free radicals release from various sources. This study is therefore, intended to determine the effect of hemodialysis on lipid peroxidation changes in hemodialysis patients.
Methods and Materials: In this descriptive-analytical study, samples (17 men and 10 women) were selected through convenient sampling; they had a history of 6-12 month hemodialysis. Malondialdehyde (MDA), an index for lipid peroxidation, was measured by TBA standardized method. Relevant statistical tests were used for data analysis.
Results: Mean MDA before and after hemodialysis were 4.17±1.24 and 4.98±1.2 mmol/l respectively; and the difference was significant. Also, a significant difference was found to exist between male and female mean MDA before and after hemodialysis.
Conclusion: The findings revealed that oxidative stress manifests as increased lipid peroxidation after hemodialysis. Therefore, due to the important role of oxidative stress in causing and developing hemodialysis complication, appropriate measures can be taken to inhibit these reactions in order to take effective steps in patients' recovery.
