Background: The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of job stress and work locus of control on job satisfaction of Tehran emergency first responders. Method: In this study correlational research method was used and 160 members of Tehran emergency first responders were selected through multi-stage cluster sampling method. To collect data three questionnaires including self-reported job stress questionnaire (Martinssuen, 2001), spector work locus of control questionnaire (1988) and spector job satisfaction questionnaire (1988) were used. Statistical analysis of data was performed with Pearson correlation and regression analysis. Results: The results of this study show there is negative significant relationship between job stress and job satisfaction. In addition, findings showed that there are significant positive and negative correlation relationships between internal and external locus of control and job satisfaction respectively. Furthermore, stepwise regression analysis showed the subscales of external locus of control, role, internal locus of control, communication and supervisors could estimate 54% of the variance in job satisfaction. Conclusion: According to this study, job satisfaction can be estimated on the basis of two effective factors of job stress and work locus of control.

Data were collected via instrument which includes background information and 28 items form ofBradbry-Graves, emotional intelligence and 21 items from of job satisfaction by census method. Data analysis was performed by t-test and ANOVA test andPearson correlation coefficients. Results: Results showed that the mean score of job satisfaction was 83.72±17.69 and the mean scoreof emotional intelligence was 121.09±17.56. It was observed that there is a significant relationship between total score of job satisfaction (intrinsic and extrinsic satisfaction) and total score of emotional intelligencewith a correlation coefficient of 0.351 (P>0.0001).The results of analysis of (ANOVA) and t-test showed thatthere is not a significant relationship between demographic variables (age, education, experience, organizational unit, sex) with job satisfaction and emotional intelligence and their dimensions(P>0.05). Conclusions: Job satisfaction is directly related to emotional intelligence and it seems that people with high emotional intelligence feel more satisfaction in their work with colleagues and patients. It is suggested that further studies should be done to reveal the relationship between these two concepts and their relationships with demographic variables.

There was a correlation between the overall quality of work life and the average working hours per week (P=0.021), and satisfaction of workload in shifts (P=0.002); but there was no significant relationship between the quality of work life and demographic characteristics such as age (P=0.30), academic degree (P=0.24), marital status (P=0.27), number of children (P=0.95), and monthly salary (P =0.37).Conclusion It is hoped that the authorities take proper measures to improve midwives' work condition, enhance job security, and use midwives’ professional ability in the areas of their skills.
